Clean, clear communication is essential to Lindy Gifford Design, but attention to detail, rich textures, eclectic references, and unexpected combinations are what make my work especially appealing and effective. No standard templates or generic design here. Each piece is unique, stands out, and at the same time visually communicates the content before the viewer reads one word. Portfolio

I have experience designing nearly every form of print communication. Book design is a big part of my practice, especially book covers, but I also design interior pages. I often design the entire book, creating a cohesive look throughout. I have designed dozens of books, from children’s books to highly technical manuals and from text only novels to full color coffee table art books.

Over the years I have also served as art director for five different magazines, including WoodenBoat Magazine. I did a complete redesign for two of these magazines.

Along the way, I have designed many logos, catalogues, video and DVD covers, brochures, direct mail, letterheads and more. Currently I’m branching out into web design with my computer-genius brother-in-law Daniel Axtell. (This site is the result of our first collaboration.)

I am also a photographer and digital artist. Sometimes I can use an image from my stock portfolio on a design project, offering the client savings of both time and money. My skill in photo illustration enables me to combine multiple images and text into a sophisticated, seamless whole. Photo Illustration Portfolio
